OBSESSION

Chapter 1 · Part 4
I breathed deeply as I approached the VIP section, trying to steady my nerves. My fingers combed through my hair, taming the strands scattered from my sprint, before I straightened my blouse and slid the door open.
Thankfully, it wasn’t Sebastian.
But Rosalie had been right—I knew him.
He was one of my biggest clients. Maybe the biggest.
An English bloke. Filthy rich. One of the UK’s most influential men. A lawyer or something. His dark amber eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made my skin prickle.
“Hello there,” I said, leaning in to exchange cheek kisses.
“You look stunning as ever,” he said with a smirk.
“Trust me, I can say the same for you,” I replied, sitting across from him, back straight, legs crossed.
“It’s been a while, Miss Valentina,” he said, using my alias.
“You’ve got the plug here,” I replied lightly. “I’m here whenever you need me.”
“How’s life been?” he asked.
“Great as ever.”
“I don’t think so.”
“What?”
“You’re broke. Very broke.”
My heart skipped. How did he know?
“You have a daughter,” he continued calmly. “Gabriella. Eight years old.”
My blood ran cold.
“What do you want?” I asked sharply.
He leaned in. “Marry me.”
I stared at him. “Why would I marry you?”
“I would pay you,” he said simply. “A million. Two. Ten. Name it.”
Men like him didn’t notice women like me. They certainly didn’t propose to them.
“That doesn’t answer the question.”
“I need a wife,” he said. “A real one.”
I laughed. “I’m an escort.”
“You’re real,” he replied. “I’ve been with you. I know.”
“Then why offer money?”
“Because I know that’s how you listen.”
I stood, pulling my bag over my shoulder.
“I’m rejecting you.”
“You shouldn’t rush.”
“Have a nice day, Mister Seth.”
Marriage wasn’t for me. Neither was love.
And with that, I walked out.
