The Summer I Went Wild Chapter 4 Part 3
Chapter 4 · Part Four
The Summer I Went Wild
For the umpteenth time, Maddy was the cause of this. She had said shit and made old feelings creep back in. Made me notice how hot he looked.
And now, telling myself I was not attracted to Landon Gray was useless.
When I returned to the lounge, I sat between Maddy and Caleb, determined to focus on anything but Landon. They were deep into some ridiculous story about Hollywood, laughing at scandals and outrageous celebrity feuds.
I leaned back, crossed my legs, and propped my chin on my hand, trying to keep my mind from drifting.
I could do this. Just stay calm. Ignore Landon.
Theo was cute and had been flirting with me all evening. Maybe if I focused on him, I could avoid obsessing over Landon’s stupid, perfectly slanted jaw and that annoying, sexy mess of hair every romance novel described as sex hair.
Would flirting with Theo work? Maybe.
“What do you choose, Char?” Maddy asked.
“Huh?”
“Bonfire party, movie, or game night?”
“Movie night.”
Roger whooped. “And we won!”
Caleb shrugged. “Movie night’s fine.”
Theo met my eyes and smiled. “The night’s looking interesting.”
I smiled back—but felt nothing.
No spark. No thrill. Not like the heat I’d felt earlier when Landon stared at me.
This was going to be harder than I thought. But still better than being attracted to Landon Gray.
The moon hung like a lantern above the ocean, silver light rippling across the waves.
I lay on a lounge chair, People We Meet on Vacation resting on my knees, completely absorbed.
Only Dad had called. Not Mom.
That hurt lingered quietly.
“Char, we’re putting on the movie,” Maddy called.
“Be there in a bit!”
“We picked Game of Thrones.”
She knew exactly how to get me.
I sighed.
I was here to relax. To have fun.
Landon or no Landon—I was going to enjoy this vacation.
