Accidentally Yours Chapter 2 Part 2

CHAPTER 2 · PART TWO

Accidentally Yours

The walk felt faster than it should have, and soon we were standing before Angelo and his sisters. Ten teasing eyes turned to me, their glances filled with knowing smiles that made my skin prickle. I hated being the center of attention, but I greeted each one politely, doing my best to keep my nerves hidden.

He threw me a flirty “Hi,” his voice as smooth as ever.

“Hi,” I replied, returning the favor with a small smile.

Four years ago, before he left for Oxford, this simple exchange would have been enough to send my heart thudding against my chest. Now? It was different. Of course, I was happy to see him again, but a coil of nervousness gripped me tightly.

“You look so gorgeous,” he said, his blue eyes lingering on me.

“Thank you.”

I wanted to ask him many things—how his time at Oxford was and what he planned to do now that he was back—but the words lodged in my throat. Part of me wished he hadn’t come back so soon.

“You’ve changed so much,” Angelo whispered, his tone low enough that only I could hear.

“For the good or the bad?” I asked, forcing my voice to remain steady.

His eyes traveled down my figure, a quick but appreciative glance. “A hundred percent positive.”

“And you’re still the same old you.”

“What can I say? There’s no place like home, so I couldn’t evolve and be as sparkling as you.”

A passing waitress offered a tray of champagne, and everyone took a glass. I sipped mine, letting the bubbles settle the storm of emotions brewing inside me.

“I didn’t mean it in a bad way.”

“So, what are you trying to say? That I’m hot?” His eyes smoldered as he teased.

I grinned. “Yes, a hundred percent.”

“Thank you for your honesty.”

Before I could reply, Selina, Angelo’s younger sister, interrupted us with an apologetic smile. “Sorry to break up you lovebirds, but Mama’s asking for Diana. She wants to see you—and, of course, you too, Angelo.”

“Noted,” he said, turning to me and offering his hand. “Let’s not keep her waiting. Mama doesn’t take kindly to being delayed.”

As I slid my hand into his, Claudia leaned in and whispered, “Don’t make it easy for him. Play hard to get. Make him sweat a little.”

I chuckled softly, shaking my head at her antics. But my steps were steady, and Angelo and I walked in sync, his hand warm and firm in mine, as if this were the most natural thing in the world.

“Ma, Diana is here,” he announced with that smooth, formal drawl he always used when speaking to his mother.

“Happy birthday, Nadia,” I said, kissing her smooth cheek softly.

Despite the fine wrinkles that riddled her face, she glowed like the sun, her smile infectious and her teeth so white they looked unreal. Her skin was smooth, like honey and milk. No wonder Angelo was one of the most attractive men in the zip code. He was the spitting image of his mother.

“Thank you, darling,” Nadia mumbled, her eyes darting between Angelo and me. “You two youngsters have no idea how good you look together.”

Her words caught me off guard. Nadia had never said anything like this before. But now, the lovey-dovey look she gave us spoke volumes.

This could only mean one thing.

Our parents had decided it was the right time for us to get married.
